What Electricity Is

Ohm's Law (V = I × R) connects all three — the single most-used formula in the trade. AC (alternating, from the grid) vs DC (batteries, electronics). 120V can kill; respect is the first lesson.

Series, Parallel & Power
🎯 Analyze simple circuits and calculate power.Series circuits share one path (one break kills all); parallel circuits give each load its own path — house wiring is parallel. Power (watts) = volts × amps; a 1500W heater on a 15A/120V circuit draws 12.5A — near the 80% continuous limit. These calculations size circuits, breakers, and wire every day on the job.

Electrical Safety & PPE

🎯 Navigate the code book.The Canadian Electrical Code (CSA C22.1) is the law of the trade; Alberta adopts it with STANDATA amendments. Learn to find rules by section and table: wire ampacity tables, box fill, conductor counts, GFCI locations. You will not memorize it — you will learn to FIND answers fast, which is what exams and foremen test.
